Double Draw Aces Poker

One near universal video poker rule is that there’s only one draw round. But
Double Draw Aces is unique because it gives you the chance to experience two
draw rounds.

Obviously this boosts your odds of winning since you have two opportunities
at making a better hand.

But what’s the catch to drawing a second time? And what must you do to unlock
the second draw round?

Let’s find out by covering the finer points of Double Draw Aces, including
how to play, payback, pay tables, strategy, and where to find this game.

The Basics of Playing Double Draw Aces Video Poker

The standard video poker hand has two phases: the deal and draw rounds.

Double Draw Aces adds a new wrinkle, though, because you have the chance to
get a second draw round.

But the second draw isn’t awarded on every hand. Instead, it’s only available
when you’re dealt 2 or more aces and retain them during the draw round.

We’ll discuss this feature more while covering the playing process below.

Betting Process

Despite its unique rules, Double Draw Aces’ betting process works just like
standard video poker machines.

You can wager between 1 and 5 coins per hand.

We Recommend Betting All 5
Coins Because the Value of the Royal Flush Payout Increases, Which is Shown
Below:

  • 1 coin win = 250 coins
  • 2 coin win = 500
  • 3 coin win = 750
  • 4 coin win = 1,000
  • 5 coin win = 4,000

As you can see, the royal flush payout increases 4x from the 4 coin to 5 coin
win. And this favorable jump is why you need to wager 5 coins per hand to
achieve optimal payback.

Most video poker machines in brick and mortar casinos have $0.05, $0.25, or
$1.00 coin denominations. This means your maximum wager will likely be $0.25,
$1.25, or $5.00.

The $0.25 to $1.25 max betting range will suit most players’ bankrolls.

Second Draw Round

Double Draw Aces offers you a second chance to draw for cards.

Here Are the
Rules For This Feature:
  • You must be dealt 2 or more
    aces on the first draw.
  • When this happens, you have
the option to keep your first draw hand.
  • Or you can take a second
    draw.
  • During the second draw, the
cards you received on the first draw are put back into the deck.
  • Basically, you’re just
replaying the first draw and hoping for a better result.
  • All results on the second
    draw round are final.

Playing Hands

Here Are the Full Steps for Playing Hands in Double Draw Aces:
  • Choose how many coins to bet.
  • Select Deal to receive your initial 5 card hand.
  • Decide what cards to keep and discard.
  • 4Choose Draw to replace discards with new cards.
  • If you’re dealt 2 or more aces, you have the option for a second draw.
  • Your final hand is evaluated for a potential win.

When hands are finished, you can change your bet size or just choose Deal to
start a new hand.

We recommend that you select the 5 coin max bet from the beginning and avoid
changing it so you can achieve optimal payback.

Onscreen Display

Double Draw Aces mostly looks like a standard video poker machine. You’ll see
the pay table at the top of the screen, cards in the middle, and betting options
underneath.

But the key difference is that it features a prompt for choosing the second
draw. This is available any time that you receive 2 or more aces on the first
draw.

You Can See Descriptions of This Game’s Common Betting / Game Options Below:
  • Bet One – Raises your bet by
    1 coin when it’s selected.
  • Bet Max – Automatically
increases your wager to the 5 coin max.
  • See Pays / Help – Lets you
see rules and another view of the pay table.
  • Deal – This button deals
    your initial 5 card hand.
  • Draw – Replaces discards
    with new cards.

Double Draw Aces vs. Double Draw Poker

Double Draw Poker is similar to Double Draw Aces because it also gives
players a chance at two draw rounds.

But the difference is that you need a dealt 3 of a kind or full house to get
the second draw in Double Draw Poker.

Here’s an Example:
  • You’re dealt: 3s 3c 3h 8s Jd
  • You discard 8s Jd on the first draw and receive Kc 2s in their place.
  • Since this doesn’t improve your hand, you draw a second time and receive 3d 9s.
  • You’ve now improved to a 4 of a kind.

Double Draw Aces and Double Draw Poker are the only two games we’ve played
where you can get a second draw. But they obviously differ in terms of what
qualifies for another drawing opportunity.

Payback and Pay Tables in Double Draw Aces Poker

Double Draw Aces’ rules are different from other video poker machines. But
its pay table is nearly identical to the popular Double Double Bonus Poker.

These games both pay bonuses for 4 of a kinds, with the largest prizes
awarded for hands with a specific kicker (fifth card).

We’ll discuss the similarities between Double Draw Aces and Double Double
Bonus Poker later. But let’s first cover Double Draw Aces’ pay table and
payback.

Double Draw Aces Pay Table

What’s fun about Double Draw Aces is that it combines two potential draw
rounds with bonus payouts.

The two largest bonuses are awarded when you get specific 4 of a kinds with a
kicker. You can look forward to other large bonuses even without a kicker.

The one downside to this pay table is that the full house, flush, and
straight don’t pay much in comparison to other games. We’ll analyze this next
when we cover payback.

5 / 4 / 3 Double Draw Aces Pay Table
Hand 1 coin 2 coins 3 coins 4 coins 5 coins
Royal flush 250 500 750 1000 4000
Straight Flush 50 100 150 200 250
4 aces w / 2 to 4 kicker 400 800 1200 1600 2000
4 2s 4s w / A to 4 160 320 480 640 800
4 aces 160 320 480 640 800
4 2s 4s 80 160 240 320 400
4 5s Ks 50 100 150 200 250
Full house 5 10 15 20 25
Flush 4 8 12 16 20
Straight 3 6 9 12 15
3 of a kind 3 6 9 12 15
2 pairs 1 2 3 4 5
Jacks or better 1 2 3 4 5

Double Draw Aces Payback

Payback for the table listed above is 96.26%. This is really low when
compared to other video poker machines.

As mentioned before, the biggest problem is that the full house, flush, and
straight don’t offer much.

Most video poker games pay at least 8 9 coins for a full house and 5 6
credits for a flush. But Double Draw Aces skimps in this department.

Perhaps there are better pay tables for Double Draw Aces somewhere in the
world. However, this is the only one we can find.

Comparison to Double Double Bonus Poker and Double Draw Poker

Double Double Bonus Poker offers most of the same qualifying hands as Double
Draw Aces. The key difference, though, is that you can expect better payouts for
the lower qualifying hands.

Let’s Check This Out Below With a 9 / 6 Double Double Bonus pay table:
Hand 1 coin 2 coins 3 coins 4 coins 5 coins
Royal flush 250 500 750 1000 4000
Straight Flush 50 100 150 200 250
4 aces w / 2 to 4 kicker 400 800 1200 1600 2000
4 2s 4s w / A to 4 160 320 480 640 800
4 aces w / 5 to K 160 320 480 640 800
4 2s 4s w / 5 to K 80 160 240 320 400
4 5s Ks 50 100 150 200 250
Full house 9 18 27 36 45
Flush 6 12 18 24 30
Straight 4 8 12 16 20
3 of a kind 3 6 9 12 15
2 pairs 1 2 3 4 5
Jacks or better 1 2 3 4 5

Again, the qualifying hands between Double Double Bonus and Double Draw Aces
are nearly the same. The only differences are that Double Double Bonus has
kickers on the 4 aces w / 5 to K, and 4 2s to 4s w / 5 K.

The glaring differences come in how much Double Double Bonus pays for a full
house (9), flush (6), and straight (4).

A few coins here or there may not seem like a big difference with these
hands. But they occur frequently in both games, which is where Double Double
Bonus separates itself in terms of payback.

9 / 6 Double Double Bonus offers 98 / 98% payback, which is much better than
Double Draw Aces (96.26%). And this is in spite of the fact that Double Draw
Aces gives you a chance at drawing a second time.

Comparison to 6 / 5 Double Draw Poker

Given Double Draw Poker’s rule similarities, let’s look at how its pay table
compares to Double Draw Aces:

Hand 1 coin 2 coins 3 coins 4 coins 5 coins
Royal flush 250 500 750 1000 4000
Straight Flush 50 100 150 200 250
4 aces 160 320 480 640 800
4 2s 4s 80 160 240 320 400
4 5s Ks 50 100 150 200 250
Full house 6 12 18 24 30
Flush 5 10 15 20 25
Straight 4 8 12 16 20
3 of a kind 3 6 9 12 15
2 pairs 1 2 3 4 5
Jacks or better 1 2 3 4 5

The key difference between this pay table and Double Draw Aces is the absence
of bonus kickers. Furthermore, Double Draw Poker offers two fewer bonus payouts.

Another discrepancy is that Double Draw Poker’s top bonuses don’t pay as
much.

But this pay table still offers 97.98% payback, which is 1.72% higher than
Double Draw Aces.

How is this possible?

Because the full house, flush, and straight all offer one more coin. These
hands occur far more frequently than the bonuses, which gives Double Draw Poker
higher payback.

Double Draw Aces Hand Probabilities

Here Are the Chances of Getting Each Hand in Double Draw Aces:
  • Royal flush = 0.0025%
    probability
  • Straight flush = 0.0096%
  • 4 aces w / 2 to 4 = 0.011%
  • 4 2s 4s w / A to 4 = 0.015%
  • 4 aces = 0.029%
  • 4 2s 4s = 0.04%
  • 4 5s Ks = 0.17%
  • Full house = 0.87%
  • Flush = 1.02%
  • Straight = 1.07%
  • 3 of a kind = 8.34%
  • 2 pair = 11.04%
  • Jacks or better = 22.71%

The large majority of your wins will be through pairs (jacks or better), 2
pairs, and 3 of a kinds. The bonus payouts, on the other hand, rarely occur.

It surprises us how infrequently bonus hands come around when considering
that you sometimes get a second draw.

Where to Find Double Draw Aces – Online, Offline, Free, or Real Money

One problem with Double Draw Aces is that it’s really hard to find.

We searched vpFREE2.com, which is the gold standard for finding video poker
machines. But our search for Double Draw Aces came up empty.

Gaming expert Michael Shackleford states that he saw Double Draw Aces at the
Frontier casino back in 2005. But the Frontier was closed and demolished in
2007.

Our guess is that the manufacturer IGT stopped producing Double Draw Aces a
long time ago.

But this doesn’t mean that you won’t still find a few Double Draw Aces
machines floating around the casino world. You’ll just have a much harder time
doing so because they’re not listed on vpFREE2.

IGT products aren’t available for play at online casinos. This means that you
can’t play Double Draw Aces for free or real money online.

Double Draw Aces Video Poker Strategy

We searched for a Double Draw Aces strategy card and couldn’t find one. This
is little surprise, given that the game is almost nonexistent in casinos.

That Means You Have Three Options For Learning Double Draw Aces Strategy:
  • Buy a video poker trainer and customize a pay table.
  • Use a Double Double Bonus strategy card with slight modifications.
  • Use a hand analyzer.

Let’s take a closer look at both of these methods below.

Practicing Double Draw Aces with a Video Poker Trainer

A video poker trainer points out strategy mistakes and correct decisions as
you play. The idea is that you’ll eventually avoid these mistakes as you
continue playing hands and figuring out the right plays.

Here’s an Example of a Video Poker Trainer Pointing Out a Double Double Bonus
Mistake:
  • You’re dealt: 6s 8s Jh 4c
    10h
  • You hold Jh.
  • The trainer alerts you to a
    mistake.
  • You should’ve held Jh and
10h because it’s the optimal play.
Here’s an Example of a Trainer Reinforcing a Correct Play:
  • You’re dealt: 6c Qc 4h Jc
    10s
  • You hold Qc Jc.
  • The trainer points out that
this is the best possible play.

Ideally, you’d use a free video poker trainer at a website. But the problem
is that the free versions only cover popular games like Bonus Poker, Double
Double Bonus, Jacks or Better, and Joker Poker.

Another option includes buying a trainer and customizing the hands / pay
table. This accounts for the slight differences between Double Draw Aces and
Double Double Bonus.

Speaking of which, you can also just use a free trainer that covers Double
Double Bonus. The games are similar enough to where you’ll be practicing near
optimal strategy for Double Draw Aces.

Using a Double Double Bonus Strategy Chart

Double Draw Aces only differs from Double Double Bonus in terms of a few
lower payouts and bonus hands with kickers. Therefore, a Double Double Bonus
strategy chart can be used interchangeably for both games.

This isn’t to say that you’ll achieve optimal strategy using the chart listed
below. But you can get close to perfect strategy with this chart and the
modifications we discuss next.

When reading this chart, start from the top and scan down until finding your
hand:

Strategy Chart Modifications for Double Draw Aces

The rules of Double Draw Aces create a few strategy differences from Double
Double Bonus.

Here are the differences worth noting:
  • Keep 2 aces over 4 cards to
a straight flush after the deal.
  • If you keep 2 aces after
the deal, you should keep 3 of a kind or better after the initial draw round.
  • If you keep 3 aces after
the deal, you should stand on a 4 of a kind after the first draw.

Using a Video Poker Hand Analyzer

One of the contrasts between the Double Double Bonus and Double Draw Aces pay
tables is that the latter offers less for smaller payouts. This is most
noticeable in the full house, flush, and straight payouts.

The Double Draw Aces pay table we showed earlier only pays 5 coins for a full
house, 4 for a flush, and 3 for a straight.

A hand analyzer lets you enter these pay table differences and learn how to
play each hand optimally. Furthermore, you can customize hands to figure out how
to make any decision.

We used a free hand analyzer at WizardofOdds.com. And we modified a Double
Double Bonus pay table to make it more like Double Draw Aces.

Here Are the Steps We Took:
  • Select “5 Card Draw” variations.
  • Choose Double Double Bonus
  • Change full house payout to 5 coins.
  • Change flush payout to 4.
  • Change straight to 3.

Once you have the pay table set up, you can begin putting hands together and
analyzing them.

Here’s an Example:
  • You create the following
hand: Qc 7d Js Qh Ah
  • Choose the Analyze button.
  • The analyzer shows that
keeping Qc Qh is the optimal play.
  • The second best play would
    be keeping Qc Qh Js.

The nice thing about hand analyzers is that you learn the plays for the exact
pay table you’re dealing with. And while this doesn’t account for the Double
Draw rule, it’ll get you close enough to optimal strategy.

The one drawback is that hand analyzers are time consuming. You have to set
every hand up yourself and look over the results.

Our recommendation is to begin with a chart or trainer to get a broader sense
of Double Draw Aces strategy. Next, use the hand analyzer to refine your
strategy for the Double Draw Aces pay table.

Conclusion

This game adds a fun twist to video poker in that you can potentially have a
second draw round. This is perfect for when you fall flat on the first draw and
want another opportunity.

You just need 2 or more aces in your hand to be eligible for the second draw.

Anybody who’s looking for something different in their video poker experience
will appreciate this wrinkle. And you’ll especially love it when you’re able to
form a big hand on your second chance!

Unfortunately, Double Draw Aces Has Two Big Downsides:
  • We couldn’t find it in any casinos during our research.
  • The payback is terrible.

This isn’t to say that Double Draw Aces is nowhere to be found. But you’re
going to really have to do some digging.

We found one pay table for this game, and it only offers 96.26% payback. This
is bad in comparison to other games and you won’t have a good chance to win.

Again, the Double Draw feature is really unique and is only rivaled by Double
Draw Poker. But due to the low payback and limited availability, we don’t
suggest spending hours (or days) trying to find this machine.
