What Makes These the Best Sites for Baseball Betting?

There are a lot of different factors that you should take into consideration when choosing which baseball betting site to use. Below we will cover the most important ones, so whether you choose to use one of our top-rated MLB betting sites or not, you’ll have a safe online betting experience.

Wide Variety of MLB Betting Options

Baseball Betting OddsBaseball bets should come in all different shapes and sizes. The best online baseball sportsbooks offer action on several different leagues, all the games, and more than just moneyline wagers. One of the coolest parts about real money baseball betting is the sheer volume of MLB betting odds out there. If a sportsbook is denying you that opportunity, you won’t see it on our recommended list.

Fast Payouts of Winnings

When deciding where to bet on baseball online, it’s important to look at how quickly winners get paid. Sure, the individual bets get paid instantly into your account. But how long do withdrawals take? For us, we’re only going to recommend online baseball betting sites that pay out fast. How fast is fast? Anything around about three to five days average time is quick enough to get our nod of approval.

Flexible Banking Options

Betting on baseball online is all about convenience and flexibility. This starts and ends with the deposit and withdrawal processes (literally). We’ll never recommend a sportsbook unless it’s set up to offer several high-quality and flexible banking integrations. Loading your bankroll online or cashing out winnings should never feel like a chore or give you a headache.

Great Customer Service and Support

No matter what type of baseball game you’re betting on, you want to know that the baseball betting apps or sites you’re with have your back. When we’re racking and stacking the top baseball betting sites, we take a deep look at the quality and availability of the customer service team. We want to see 24/7/365 support, fluent English help, and agents trained and equipped to get results.

System Compatibility

While not as big of an issue as it was back in the day, it’s still important to make sure the online baseball betting sites you’re joining are compatible with all major systems. For us, this means compatibility with PCs, Macs, iPhones (iOS), Androids, tablets, iPads, and any other major operating system. In the age of mobile-friendly baseball betting websites, there are no valid excuses for a lack of complete coverage in our book.

Safety and Security

It’s important to point out that our list of the reasons these are the best baseball betting sites are in no particular order. But if they were in order, safety and security would be right at the top. You have got to be confident that the betting site you’re using is safe, secure, trusted, and has your best interests in mind.

Easy-to-Use Interface

There’s one word you’re going to hear a lot from our team when it comes to ranking the best online baseball sportsbooks—convenience. And unfortunately, the convenience gained from betting online goes out the window if the user interface is no good. We turn our team of experts and a few “average joes” loose on the baseball apps we’re interested in reviewing. If they don’t all report an easy-to-use platform, that’s a big red flag and a forced error in our book.

Types of Bets Offered on MLB Betting Sites

If you’re a beginning bettor, you might not realize all the different ways that you can bet on baseball. There are ways to keep it simple, but you can also get much more intricate and involved as you try to find new angles to exploit. Here are some of the bets that you can place on real money MLB betting sites.

Moneyline Baseball Bets

The moneyline is the simplest of all baseball bets, in that you’re simply picking the team that you think is going to win a given game. Meanwhile, the oddsmakers at top gambling sites use the moneyline to even out the wager in a way. Otherwise, everybody would always bet on the heavy favorite and gambling sites would take a big hit.

The moneyline is based on an underlying base bet of $100. A team with a minus sign in front of the moneyline odds is the favorite, while a team with a plus sign in front is the underdog. It works like this:

  • If there is a minus sign in front of the number, you have to bet that amount to win $100.
  • If there is a plus sign in front of the number, you have to bet $100 to win that amount.

There is no rule that says you have to bet $100 on a baseball game. You can bet more or less, depending on the limits put into place by the website in question. The moneyline establishes a ratio of bet to return that will hold true no matter how much you wager.

Let’s take a look at an example. Imagine that you want to bet on a game between Atlanta and Milwaukee and you see the following moneyline baseball betting odds:

Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee Brewers
-150
Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves
+130

In this scenario, the Brewers, the favorite in this game, would return you to $100 on a wager of $150. The Braves, on the other hand, will pay back $130 on a $100 wager as the underdog. Once you make the bet, you’ll have those odds locked in, no matter what happens in the runup to game time.

Imagine that you wanted to bet $300 on Milwaukee. Since the ratio of bet to payback is $1.50 to $1, you could do some quick math to see that you’d get $200 back on a $300 wager. The ratio for the Braves is $1 dollar bet for every $1.30 in payback.

You’ll note as we go through the other types of baseball bets available at online sportsbooks that the moneyline plays a part in all of them. It’s most associated with win or lose bets, but the concept stays the same no matter the type of wager you choose to make.

Betting the Runline

The runline is a concept that might be unfamiliar to new baseball bettors. But football or basketball bettors might understand it quickly, because there is a similar concept called a point spread which governs those contests. With a runline, the oddsmaker is giving an advantage to the underdog in terms of a certain number of runs.

Because not nearly as many runs are scored in baseball as there are points in football and basketball, the runline usually doesn’t vary too much. Most gambling sites keep it at 1.5 runs and then use the accompanying moneyline if they have to do more adjusting. Using a half-run prevents any betting ties, since only whole numbers are used in baseball scores.

With the runline, the favorite is said to be giving runs to the underdog, who is said to be getting runs. Whatever the runline is, it is taken away from the favorite, or given to the underdog, at the end of the game to decide the final score for betting purposed. Take a look at this example using MLB betting lines:

Boston Red Sox
Boston Red Sox
+1.5 (+110)
Cleveland Indians
Cleveland Indians
-1.5 (-105)

Let’s take a look now at how the moneyline might affect certain outcomes:

  • Cleveland wins the game 5-2. Since the 1.5 runs added to Boston only makes their total 3.5 runs, Cleveland still comes out ahead 5-3.5. Cleveland bettors win.
  • Cleveland wins the game 4-3. Since the 1.5 runs added to Boston makes their total 4.5 runs, Boston comes out ahead 4.5-4. Boston bettors win.
  • Boston wins the game 8-1. Anytime an underdog on the runline wins the game outright, that team will also win a runline bet. Boston bettors wins.

The moneyline is still in place for this game, so you’d need to bet $100 to win $110 on Boston with the line and $105 to win $100 on Cleveland against the line. Using the runline, online sportsbooks for MLB betting are attempting to bring a favorite and an underdog closer together, making it a tougher choice for the bettor. But it also prevents bettors from shying away huge favorites as much, since such favorites can be unfavorable to win on the moneyline alone.

Over/Under Total Runs Scored

An over/under bet allows you to bet on something other than the performance of one team against another in the game. With an over/under bet, both teams are kind of in it together. The oddsmakers set a line of how many runs they think will be scored by both teams in a single game.

If you think the total runs will be higher than the total, you’d bet the over. And if you think less runs will scored than the over/under total, you’d bet the under. For example, look at the following game’s baseball betting lines:

Chicago Cubs
Over 8.5
-120
Chicago White Sox
Under 8.5
+110

Let’s look at a couple final scores to see how the over/under works:

  • Final score 8-3. Total number of runs is 11, over 8.5, so the over wins.
  • Final score 6-2. Total number of runs is 8, under 8.5, so the under wins.

The over/under is a pretty easy concept to understand, even for beginning baseball bettors. It also makes for a good way to get action on a game, even if you’re not sure about how one team will do against another. You could instead focus on whether or not the two scheduled pitchers will hold down opposing offenses and use that as the basis for your over/under wager.

MLB Prop Bets

A prop bet is generally defined as a bet that has something to do with a baseball game but isn’t really tied to the outcome in any way. It can also fit any the description of any bet on a single baseball game that isn’t a moneyline, runline, or over/under. There are also prop bets which are based on more than one game, such as a playoff series.

Many prop bets are tied into the statistical performances of individual performers in a game.

They’re often popular at MLB betting sites because many baseball fans are used to the notion of fantasy sports, which is essentially betting on how to perform on an individual basis. Some prop bets on baseball betting apps tend to pop up when the World Series arrives.

Here are some possible prop bets that you might find at top real money baseball betting sites:

  • Will the game go to extra innings?
  • Which starting pitcher will rack up more strikeouts?
  • Will a specific player hit a home run in a game?
  • Who will be the player who wins the World Series MVP?

Different betting sites will feature their own unique prop bets, so you should always do a little shopping around. One of the lures of prop bets is that they occasionally allow you to win a higher amount of money on a single bet than you could with other wagers. In any case, you should check out prop bets if you want a different way to wager on baseball for real money.

Baseball Future Bets

In some cases, you might want to make a wager on baseball without focusing on a single game. And you might want to do that well in advance of when the actual event you’re predicting takes place. That’s known as a futures wager.

Futures wagers allow you to lock in baseball betting odds on something taking place that’s related in some way to the sport. They are often made months in advance of when you’ll actually be able to tell if you won the bet or not. Possible avenues for futures wagers in baseball include:

  • Who will be the Major League Baseball MVP?
  • Which player will lead the league in home runs?
  • Which team will win the National League?
Why do people like futures wagers?

Imagine, for example, that you liked a team to win the pennant even before Spring Training started. If they weren’t highly regarded, you might be able to get them at odds of something like +1000 (100 to 1.)

Once you make the futures bet, imagine that the team goes on a tear in the regular season and jumps to the lead of their division. If you were to check the futures odds at that point, they might have dropped drastically to something like +100 (10 to 1.) But your odds are already locked in thanks to your earlier wager.

Of course, the opposite could happen and your team’s star player could get hurt on Opening Day. You wouldn’t get a refund if that happened. But the chances to win big on a futures wager make it quite enticing.

Live Betting on Baseball Games

Live betting is also called in-game betting and it relates to the ability to bet on a baseball game that has already begun. In the past, most betting sites would cut off wagering once the game began. But live betting has become extremely popular in recent years as wagering sites have employed oddsmakers to adjust the odds of certain wagers on the fly.

You can usually make a wide variety of bets through in-game baseball betting. But the most common live betting option is moneyline win/loss betting. Even into the late innings, you can still make bets.

For example, you might want to bet on a team that is losing by five runs with three innings to go, and the oddsmakers will give you very favorable odds to entice you to that make that bet. The idea behind in-game, live baseball betting is to try to find bargains. It’s a volatile way to wager on baseball, but it can be quite profitable if you choose your spots wisely.

Why You Should Bet on Baseball Online

Baseball sportsbooks online offer a lot of great advantages over betting in person. If you’re unsure if it’s the right fit for you, let us help by sharing a few of the perks. We’re fairly confident that the opportunity will fit like a glove for many of you.

Line Shopping – Get the Best Betting Odds for Your Bet

Baseball ImageThe number one reason that professional and serious bettors love online baseball betting sites is the ability to line shop. Line shopping is the process of comparing the different odds and lines that different sportsbooks are offering for the same bet. In person, you have to drive to another sportsbook and hope to find different odds. If you find worse odds, you have to drive back to the first sportsbook and hope those better odds haven’t changed.

Online, though, you can line shop different baseball betting odds in a matter of seconds. The effect this can have on your bottom line when extrapolated out over several bets is massive.

Bonuses Opportunities – Increase Your Bankroll

When you bet at the local sportsbook, you might find yourself getting a few free drink tickets at best in return for your play. And while we’re certainly not complaining and turning down a free drink, it pales in comparison to what you can get when you choose to bet on baseball online. The top online baseball betting sites offer incredible perks like free cash, deposit match bonuses, casino perks, VIP rewards, and more.

Convenience – Betting on Baseball From Anywhere

MLB betting sites and college baseball betting sites are designed to deliver convenience. Whether you’re sitting at a game, lounging at the bar, waiting to pick your kids up from school, or kicking it on the couch, online baseball betting sites get you in the game with ease. If you’re not a fan of waiting in line at the sportsbook and fighting the traffic to get there, online is where you want to be.
